Muriel A. Neveux's Obituary
Muriel A. Neveux, 89, died peacefully at D’Youville Senior Care on Monday, November 13, 2023, after a brief illness.
Muriel was born on August 7, 1934 in Biddeford, Maine to the late Albert and Mary (Santorsola) Neveux. She grew up in Lawrence, Massachusetts along with her sister Antoinette Neveux (Doyle). After graduating from St. Patrick’s High School, she attended Catherine Laboure Junior College, and earned an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing in 1955, leading her to a career as a registered nurse. Muriel worked as a dedicated surgical nurse in a supervisory role at St. John’s Hospital (currently Lowell General Hospital) for over forty years. She played an essential role in assisting surgeons and administering care for countless patients.
Muriel was a lifelong devout Catholic who had a deep and strong prayer life. These attributes and an interest in helping others seemed to impact Muriel at an early age, as she developed friendships within faith-based groups, providing emotional and spiritual support to others. Muriel was a communicant at St Patrick’s Church in Lawrence and later at St. Michael’s Parish in North Andover. Muriel believed in the importance of religion and lived her faith by being involved in many spiritual activities over the years, by actively supporting and volunteering for various charitable organizations and occasions, such as the Annual Family Festival at La Salette Shrine in Attleboro. She was very committed to prayer groups and healing services and truly enjoyed helping others whenever possible.
Muriel loved traveling with family and friends abroad and to Hawaii, which became her favorite vacation destination, where she enjoyed exploring gorgeous beaches, hidden waterfalls and festive luau dinners for two to three weeks at a time, over the course of 25 years. These treasured vacations led to life-long friendships with several residents of Hawaii, including legendary entertainers with whom she remained in contact. Muriel also enjoyed Old Orchard Beach and spending time with family and friends in Maine. One of Muriel’s fondest memories was attending the Inaugural Ball in Washington for President John F. Kennedy.
She is survived by her four nieces and nephews: Rev. Michael J. Doyle of Danvers, Hon. Peter F. Doyle of Topsfield; Kathleen J. Doyle of Danvers; Mary-Alice Doyle Norton of Georgetown; and many cousins and close friends who will miss her dearly.
