Joan F. Cargill's Obituary
Joan F. (Keefe) Cargill, 88, a lifelong resident of Lawrence, died on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at the Lawrence General Hospital.
Born in Lawrence on December 31, 1929 to Raymond V. and Annie M. (Reason) Keefe, she was educated at St. Patrick’s Grammar School and a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School. She received her Bachelors in Education from Rivier University in Nashua, NH and was a member of the class of 1951.
She had a deep faith and was a lifelong member of Saint Patrick’s Parish as well as an active member of Our Lady’s Sodality. Joan taught Home Economics in the Lawrence Public School System for 26 years. After retiring from teaching, she spent 22 years traveling with her husband David to Florida to enjoy the warm, sunny, winter months. She was an avid quilter who enjoyed making quilts for each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed working with other quilters, as part of a group, sharing time and talents to make quilts for various charities and causes. Joan loved the seacoast and spent many summers at Hampton Beach. In recent years, she enjoyed the summer months at Seabrook Beach, spending time with family and friends. When not quilting or at the beach, you could often find her playing Bridge with friends at the North Andover Senior Center.
She leaves David L. Cargill, her loving husband of 67 years of marriage. She also leaves her daughters: Susan Muraco and her husband Joseph of Haverhill, MA; Mary Lou MacPherson of Groton, MA; and her sons: David Cargill and his wife Elizabeth of Hampton, NH; Daniel and his wife Kathleen of Methuen, MA. She will also be missed by her grandchildren: Sarah Guilmette, and her husband Ronald of Atkinson, NH; Joseph Muraco, and his wife April, of Plaistow, NH; Jeffrey Cargill, and his wife Crystal of Washington, DC.; Julianne Cargill, and her fiancé Brian Headley of Beverly, MA; Megan Cargill of Nottingham, NH; Michael Cargill of Hampton, NH; Ian MacPherson of Groton, MA; Jenna MacPherson of Groton, MA; and Callie MacPherson of Groton, MA. In addition, she has two great-grandchildren, JJ and Hannah Muraco. She also leaves behind her sisters: Maryrae Whalley, and her husband Edward, Anne (Bonnie) Hoffman and Denise Menery, as well as several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her beloved daughters Joyce M. Cargill and Mary Anne Cargill. Also predeceased by her brother Charles Keefe and sisters: Virginia M. Fleming, Margaret Rice and Charlotte Preston.
Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 10, 2018 at 9:00AM at St. Patrick Church in Lawrence, MA. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery in Andover, MA.
