Mr. Francis M. Benjamin's Obituary
Francis M. Benjamin, 83, a resident of Methuen, MA passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2018.
Born in Lawrence to Ruth Benjamin, Frank was a graduate of the E.G. Wetherbee School and attended Lawrence High School. Frank had worked for the New England Power Company. He later became the Assistant Director of recreation for the City of Lawrence appointed by Mayor John J. Buckley. It was a position he held for almost 10 years. Frank was then appointed by Mayor Mary Claire Kennedy as the first director of the City’s Police Athletic League. He then went on to become a sportscaster on WCCM radio when it was owned by the great Curt Gowdy. In retirement, Frank became a volunteer writer for the Rumbo newspaper.
The former husband of the late Rita (Devine) Benjamin, family members include his children: Thomas Benjamin of Arizona, William Benjamin and his wife Beverly of Hampstead, NH, and Patricia Maloney of Salem, NH. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and his niece Julie Lago of Seabrook, NH. Frank was predeceased by his brothers Richard and John Benjamin.
