Daniel Brackett Breen Jr.'s Obituary
Daniel Brackett Breen Jr., a resident of Newbury, died on October 18, 2024, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, following a brief illness.
The oldest of ten children of Daniel Brackett Breen Sr. and Louise Norris Breen, Dan was born on June 22, 1946, in Evanston, Illinois, and grew up in North Andover, Massachusetts. After high school, Dan enlisted in the U.S. Army and spent three years stationed in Germany from 1965 to 1968, where he repaired electronics for the U.S. Army Security Agency.
Dan spent over three decades employed as a regional sales manager in the consumer electronics industry, working for a few different companies over the years managing the sales of home electronic products to major retail stores. He traveled all over the country for work and made a few appearances on cable shopping channels. Since retirement, he continued to work part-time at Kelly’s Ace Hardware in Newburyport, where he enjoyed the social interactions with customers.
Dan and his wife, Karen, fell in love and first lived in Karen’s hometown of Newburyport before moving to Newbury, where Dan and Karen raised their son and daughter, Dan and Colby. Dan was actively involved in Dan and Colby’s lives and more recently enjoyed visits with his granddaughter, Violet. Dan liked to go to restaurants, outdoor concerts, and other events in historic Newburyport. He also enjoyed summer visits to the Breen family’s beach house in Ogunquit, Maine.
Dan was predeceased by his wife, Karen Colby Breen, in 2002. He is survived by a son, Daniel B. Breen III, of Newbury; a daughter, Colby Breen, and her husband, Joseph Pantelakos, of Dover, New Hampshire; a granddaughter, Violet Pantelakos; three brothers: Stephen Breen and wife Donna of North Andover; Peter Breen and wife Kerry of Ogunquit, Maine; and Andrew Breen and wife Joan of North Hampton, New Hampshire; five sisters: Margaret Chandler and husband Brent of New London, Connecticut; Nancy Breen and wife Eva of Cape Neddick, Maine; Carol Boringa and husband Tjitse of Kittery, Maine; Mary Breen and wife Eileen of South Berwick, Maine; and Susan Breen and wife Mary of North Andover; sister-in-law Cathy Breen of North Andover, MA, and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brother Allan Breen.
Relatives and Friends are invited to call on Friday, October 25th, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 35 Merrimack Street, No. Andover, MA.
