My deepest condolences to the Slauter family. My uncle, Ed Duhamel lived across the street from Andy and Claire in Atkinson. They had Sunday afternoon dinners together until his passing.
Rest in Peace.
I met Andy as I drove up for the Open House to the property across the street, from where he and Claire lived. As I exited my car Andy walked across his driveway, to greet me at my car, parked in the street.
He gave me the run down of the neighborhood, and Atkinson, NH.
Especially raving about the extraordinary gentleman, who resided in the residence next to the one that was for sale.
I was going to be so lucky and enjoy having Peter as my neighbor. Andy promised I would love living here.
Andy sold me on the location before I ever entered the property. He invited me to dinner at that Open House, a total stranger, but he was sure I would take the Condo without a doubt.
After my walk thru of the property, I was trying to explain to my adult son- I found my new home, it had been an exhaustive 1 year search... my adult child asked me how I knew, this was the one? I simply replied, "Because Andy from across the street has already invited me to dinner with him and Claire "
After closing and settlement... I drove up to my new home, keys in hand. Andy again came out to meet me. Smiling hugely, as he crossed his driveway into mine- he recognized it was me...
Andy yelled back into his home, "Claire's it's Janet. I sold the house to Janet!"
There's is not a moment I do not think of Andy and Claire coming home. Opening my front door- with their door in my view. Looking out my kitchen window now, watching the snow fall down from the sky.
I smile at the warm memory of the gentle soul, who took the time to make a stranger feel welcome and safe... Andy indeed, sold me my home. You are correct Andy, I do love it here, very much- as you promised.
Good-night, sweet prince, and flights of Angels sing thee to rest.
