William James Mahoney's Obituary
William James Mahoney, 94, a lifelong resident of Lawrence, MA passed away on Monday, December 7, 2020 at the Lawrence General Hospital.
Born in Lawrence, Bill was the son of the late Dennis and Josephine Mahoney. He was a graduate of St Patrick’s Grammar School, Lawrence High School and then went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree from Arizona State in Tempe, AZ. Bill was a United States Navy Veteran who served as a Deep Sea Diver in World War II at the age of 17. He had worked at Western Electric and Lucent Technologies for over 30 years and was given an award for never missing a day of work. Bill enjoyed painting with oils and gardening as well as carpentry. After retiring, Bill loved to spend a lot of time with his grandchildren as well as summering on Plum Island.
Members of Bill’s family include his wife of 58 years Margaret N. (Byrne) Mahoney as well as his three children: William Mahoney, Jr. of Lawrence, Rosemary and her husband Henry Merola of Waltham, MA and Dorothy and her husband Daniel Sweeney of Reading, MA. Bill is also survived by his eight grandchildren: Catherine, Margaret and Anthony Campagna, Henry, Jr. and Faith Merola, and Margaret, Eileen and Danielle Sweeney, brothers Dennis and John Mahoney, a sister Claire Blaine, as well as several nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his siblings Eileen Fay, Doris Mahoney and his infant brother James Mahoney.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Funeral Mass on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. in St. Michael’s Church, 196 Main St., North Andover, MA. Social distancing practices will be followed and the wearing of masks will be required. Due to the Covid situation, visitation and burial will be private for immediate family members only. Memorial contributions may be made in Bill’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place
