I am so sorry to hear of Bert's passing. I am not a personal friend but a Bentley alum who was a huge fan of the Bentley basketball team in the early 70's. It is not surprising to see that Bert went on to have successful coaching career. He touched a lot of lives throughout his entire life, as a student athlete and as a coach. Clearly he was a much loved and respected man. My condolences to the Hammel Family. May he rest in peace.
Bert was a friend and inspiration. He was good to the core,.. “ Salt of the Earth” . My experiences with him at Merrimack are of all pleasant times in winning and in losing. Despite his dogged efforts he maintained a light hearted perspective.
He was always well received in this life by all of us in this life, as I am sure he will be in the next...!!

We are so very saddened to hear about the passing of Bert. We feel very lucky to have been able to spend time with Bert at Keene State College where our son Jesse and Lucas became friends and Basketball teammates. We also enjoyed spending time getting to know Bert when the Basketball Team Parents would get together. Please know that you all are in our thoughts and prayers. We will always treasure our time together!!
