Virginia Marie (Mondello) Furrier's Obituary
Virginia Marie (Mondello) Furrier, 89, of Lawrence, MA formerly of Malden, MA and Winter Haven, FL, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025 at the Mary Immaculate Nursing/Restorative Center in Lawrence, MA. She was the beloved wife of the late John Michael (Mike) Furrier to whom she was married for 31 years.
Born on January 30, 1936 in Malden, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Gustave and Eleanor (Conti) Mondello, she grew up in Malden, MA along with her brother Robert.
Virginia (Jinnie) was an avid seamstress, sewing Easter outfits for her four daughters, making doll clothes for the church bazaar, and a pizza maker hat for her son’s school play. She was always the go-to person in the neighborhood when anyone had a sewing need. She reached her dream and opened her own shop, Jinnie’s Hemline, in Maplewood Square, Malden, where she hemmed and sewed for many a happy customer until she moved to Oakwood Estates in Winter Haven, FL in 1985. There, she and Mike made a life they loved for almost 30 years. Her mother, Eleanor, and her Aunt Julia followed them to Winter Haven, and they were later joined by her brother Bob and his wife Loretta. In 2013, she moved back to Massachusetts to be with her children.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Mike, her son Louis S. Battaglia, her daughter Paula Battaglia-English, and her stepson Christopher Furrier.
She is survived by her brother Robert Mondello and his wife Loretta of Westford, MA; her children Mark Battaglia of Raynham, MA, Mary Battaglia and her husband Michael Annal of Sandown, NH, Linda Battaglia and her husband Allen McKenzie of Cambridge, MA, Joanne Sordillo and her husband James of Pelham, NH, and Paul Battaglia and his wife Kyoko of Salem, NH; and her step children Thomas Furrier, Michael Furrier, Greg Furrier, Mark Furrier, Ann Chilton, and Matthew Furrier. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, Nicole, Lou, Angela, Michael, Anthony,
Valerie, Sophia, Mark, and Emma, and two great grandchildren, John and Alex, as well as three nieces and four nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday, August 3, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 pm, followed by a prayer service, at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc. 35 Merrimack Street, No. Andover, MA. Internment will be private.
