Shirley C. (Gillis) McGuire's Obituary
Shirley C. (Gillis) McGuire, 90, a lifelong resident of North Andover, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of her Husband Jim, on Saturday, August 26th, 2017, at Sutton Hill Center in North Andover, with her children by her side.
Shirley was born on December 17, 1926 in Manchester by the Sea, where she received her primary education. She was a graduate of Punchard High School, while living in Andover, MA. It was there where she met the love of her life, Jim McGuire, whom she married on December 5, 1948. She was a longtime resident of North Andover, a member of Saint Michael’s Parish and a member of the North Andover American Legion Auxiliary. Shirley was an avid Red Sox Fan, loved reading, solving crossword puzzles, ballroom dancing and traveling with Jim and great friends.
She was a soft spoken woman, with a selfless beautiful soul, who spent her life caring for and loving her 10 children. She asked for little, but gave so much. The sparkle in her eyes when she talked about her family was the unspoken words of “I Love You” for each and every one of them.
Shirley will be sorely missed by her children and their spouses, John and Sue McGuire, Kathi and Dave Gallant, Jim and Sue McGuire, Anne and Bob Gagnon, Noreen and Dane Hubbard, Kevin McGuire, Mike and Lisa McGuire, Paul and Kathy Slade/McGuire, Shirley and Joe Ciccolo and Tricia and Rich Minassian. She also leaves 21 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her Husband, James A. McGuire and her Brothers, James and Jean Gillis.
The Family would like to thank the Third Floor Staff of Sutton Hill Place for the care and love that was given to Shirley during her time with them.
Visitation will be private. Friends are respectfully invited to a Funeral Mass to be held on Wednesday, August 30th, at 11:30 am, at Saint Michael’s Church, 196 Main Street, North Andover, MA, followed by burial at Linwood Cemetery in Haverhill, MA. Arrangements are under the direction of the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home in North Andover.
