Salvatore "Sully" Zingales' Obituary
Salvatore “Sully” Zingales, 95, beloved father, husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16th, surrounded by his loving family in Methuen, MA at the remarkable age of 95. Known affectionately as “Nonno” – the Italian word for grandfather – Sully had a gift for filling every room he entered with love, light, and laughter.
Born in New York City, Sully spent a formative chapter of his life in Sicily, Italy before returning to the United States and settling in Methuen, MA at the age of 17, the place he would call home for the rest of his life. It was there that he built his career, raised his family, and left a significant mark on all who crossed his path.
Sully was a man of extraordinary work ethic and dedication to his craft. A painter by trade, he worked with pride and purpose well into his mid-80’s, climbing ladders with the energy and determination of a man half his age. Those who knew him well will fondly remember his beloved Riviera, his blue van, “Betsy,” and the occasional adventure of tracking “Betsy” down in a parking lot, always with a laugh and never missing a beat.
He was caring and considerate in the truest of sense, always taking a genuine interest in the lives of those around him. He wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty and was never short of a helping hand for anyone who needed one.
Above all else, Sully was a devoted family man who believed deeply in togetherness. He worked to keep those he loved united; solving problems, sharing moments, and building memories that will last for generations.
Sully was without question, the people’s Nonno. Regardless of who you were or where you came from, he welcomed you with open arms and loved you as his own. His legacy, his spirit, and his memory will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Antonia Zingales; his brother Enzo Zingales; his son, Joe Zingales, and his wife, Teresa Zingales; his daughter, Rosanna Zingales-Lopez, and her husband, Miguel Lopez; his grandchildren; Juliana Manni, and her husband, Joe Manni; Matteo Zingales; Julian Lopez and his girlfriend, Leah DeMelo; Antonio Lopez; Jeremy Lopez; Corey Lopez; and his great-grandchild, Nico Manni.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 beginning at 9:30 AM at Mary Queen of Peace, 200 Lawrence Road, Salem, NH 03079, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. https://danafarber.jimmyfund.org
