It is with profound sadness that I learn of the passing of "Aunt Rita". Although just an old family friend in my younger days , Rita was someone very special to me who served well as an Aunt and gave me many hours of fun and joy. Rita had a golden heart and spent her entire life doing for others along with her neice Mary McGovern who is also a hard working woman who has given much of herself to many. All of the "special" citizens of Greater Lawrence benefitted from Rita's drive and desire and were able to live their lives with a lot of normalcy and a true sense of acceptance and fitting in , all thanks to Rita's work in forming and running the Greater Lawrence Assoc. for Retarded Citizens. Programs and services have come a long way since but Rita was the pioneering founder and should never be forgotten for that. Rita always had a kind word or a pat on the back for anyone , whether you needed it or not , she wanted everyone to know they were appreciated and special in their own way. Rita and her neice Mary McGovern were also quite instrumental in the workings of the old "Burke Hospital" and the attempt to keep it running for the citizens that needed it , they gave many hours of selfless service to trying to help others. I consider myself lucky and greatful to have known them both and benefitted from their wisdom , friendship , and warmth. May you Rest In Eternal Peace "Aunt Rita" , you earned it and you deserve it. God Bless You , you'll be missed by all. I hold you in my heart. With respect , love , and gratitude , thank you. David.
