Philip Long's Obituary
Mr. Philip Long, 82, of North Andover, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on August 4th, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family. Mr. Long was born on May 29th, 1928 in North Andover, Massachusetts to the late Carl H. Long, Sr. and Bertha E. (Mulchahey) Long. He was educated at the Franklin School in North Andover, the Merrimack School and was a graduate of Johnson High School class of 1946. Mr. Long served for two years in the United States Navy. He then went onto Bridgton Academy in Bridgton, Maine graduating in 1949. He was an attendant of Saint Michael Church in North Andover, MA. and worked as a Supervisor for Raytheon in Lowell, Massachusetts for some 20 years. He later worked for the Department of Public Works in North Andover, retiring as Assistant Superintendant. Mr. Long was inducted into the Johnson/North Andover High School Hall of Fame in March of 2009. He enjoyed fishing, was an avid golfer and a member of the VFW Golf League in North Andover. He was a big Patriots and Red Sox Fan and one of the VFW original season ticket holder of the Boston Patriots. According to his family, he enjoyed working on the family cottage at Plum Island. Kerry M. and her husband Peter Breen of North Andover, MA. Maura E. and her husband William Canty of North Andover, MA. Ellen P. and her husband Francis Murphy of North Andover, MA. Philip Long, Jr. and Jennifer Poole of North Andover, MA. Sheila K. and her husband Daniel Murphy of North Andover, MA. He especially loved watching all his grandchildren grow up, playing sports and simply just watching them walk into his home. His Grandchildren: Stephen and Maureen, Christopher and Heather, Meghan, Chad, Jarrad and Laurie, Corey, Heather, Courtney, Kristen, Lindsay, Travis, Timothy, Erin, Tyler, Brett, Kathryn, Benjamin, Daniel, Brittany, Emily, Abigail, Tessa, Kellan. His Great Grandchildren: William, Jack, Shane, and Logan. His Sister: Mary A. Rivet and her husband Francis of Salem, NH Sisters-in-law: Corinne Long and Louise Long of North Andover, MA. Ruth and her husband Harold Bamford of Salem, NH As well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends. Brother of the late: Kathleen Finck, Carl H. Long, Jr., Daniel Long, Kenneth Long Grandfather of the late Cole D. Murphy His funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 10th, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Michael Church in North Andover, MA. Burial will follow at the Ridgewood Cemetery in North Andover, MA.
