Patricia M. Khoury's Obituary
It is with a heavy heart and much sorrow, that we say goodbye to our beloved Mother, Patricia M. Khoury, who died peacefully on August 15, 2025 at Salem Haven. Despite our sadness, we find peace in knowing she will join our beloved younger brother, Gary, and our father, her devoted husband of over 60 years who predeceased her. Born in Lawrence, she was the youngest sister of eight children. She deeply loved and remained close with all of her sisters, and brother, until their own passings.
During her younger years, she was known for her accomplishments for swimming and diving. She loved to recount the high school dances; Lawrence Memories, such as the Warner Theater; and countless other fun capers of her many siblings; still continuing to tease her sister, Barbara, even into their eighties; about their "dispute" about an angora sweater "borrowed" for a dance. After high school, for a brief period, she worked for the telephone company, and then spent time in the San Francisco, California area, with several of her siblings, who embarked upon relocating to the West Coast for greater opportunity and new lifestyle; before returning to the area and then marrying.
Later in life, she served as co owner and President of Language Learning Labs of Salem, New Hampshire. She was a loyal and dedicated mother, who cared for her four children, providing the necessary base of support for our father's many business ventures, professional requirements which often included extended overseas travel. She ensured that her children had the opportunity to experience a variety of opportunities life provided whether through travel, museums, events, and sports.
She provided great wisdom, patient listening, and unwavering loyalty to her entire family. She was a competitive tennis player and golfer, even competing with 20 year olds, well into her 40's, initially at Cedardale, where she developed lifelong friendships with her tennis companions that endured for decades. Some of the highlights she enjoyed because of her devotion to the sports, were her trip with our father to Wimbledon and to the US Open. No Fourth of July was complete without mom being completely immersed in the Wimbledon matches.
She enjoyed travel and was fortunate to travel extensively throughout the United States, the Caribbean and Europe. A particularly memorable trip for her was her trip to Australia with her BFF Phyllis Gidley. She was an avid photographer, taking lessons and determined to capture so much of the world around her, not only family and friends, but nature, in particular birds, as she enjoyed and immersed herself in learning about bird watching and the many species.
Although deeply connected and proud of her many decades in Salem, New Hampshire, her heart was with her beloved Island of Nantucket, her second home, where she spent a substantial part of forty years. Originally, just a "wash ashore," she was embraced by the Angler's Club community, in which she was a member for many years, and also known to be always up for a tennis match or round of golf. The "Trisha K" was her beloved home, and she delighted in receiving friends and family for visits, in which she would entertain them with her encyclopedic knowledge of the island's history, and deeply enjoyed sharing with them.
She was the definition of grace, and strong will, never complaining despite her health struggles and deterioration in eyesight and their limitations, even in the face of unimaginable tragedy, always keeping an upbeat engaged loving manner with family, friends and caregivers, appreciative and humbled by all, and forever grateful to Brittany, Mirabel, Eileen and the team at Amedysis/Beacon Hospice. This past year, despite her own immeasurable grief, she enjoyed her time at the Woods reconnecting with her lifelong friend, Jan, and also making many new friends, while enjoying bingo and other fun activities. She also enjoyed the annual St. Bridget's Tea with her devoted Nephew Michael and supporting his scholarship endeavors on behalf of his own Mother.
She was a devoted Wife to our Father, and was uniquely connected with our brother, Gary, who brought her immeasurable joy and pride. She is survived by her son, Patrick, and his wife Heather of Cary, Illinois; Scott and his wife, Gisele, of Hampton, New Hampshire; daughter, Pamela, of Salem, New Hampshire; and Cindy Khoury (daughter in law); as well as her grandchildren, each and every one of whom was thoroughly adored by her: Shannon; Scott, Jr; Garrett; Max; Andrew; Daniel; Rachel; Jaclyn, Nicholas; and great granddaughter, Evelyn; brother in law, Brian Khoury, and godson, Matthew Khoury; and aunt and great aunt to many, including her god daughter, Marguerite Sciuto, and her husband, Dr. Anthony Sciuto, of Methuen. Services will be private.
