Mr. Moses Leon Speller Sr.'s Obituary
Deacon Moses Speller, Sr. was born April 24,1941 in Windsor, NC to James and Ruth Speller. He was the 2nd youngest of 9 children. Deacon Speller transitioned to eternal rest on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, MA.
Deacon Speller attended Windsor Public Schools in Windsor, NC.
On November 4, 1960 he was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Rosa Lee Pope.
To this union 5 children were born.
Deacon Moses Speller was employed at Malden Mills and Manzi Dodge for 40+ years.
He was a member of Third Baptist Church, Lawrence, MA. He served on the Board of Deacons, Trustee Bd, sang in the men’s chorus, taught Sunday School and very involved in the Nursing Home Ministry. Deacon Speller was Past Master of the Masonic Lodge-St. James Lodge #20.
When Deacon Speller relocated to NC he joined Indian Woods Baptist Church in Windsor, NC. He became actively involved as a Deacon and singing in the men’s chorus.
Deacon Speller was a hard working man, spiritual man, read his bible every day.
Avid football fan and played softball for many years on the Malden Mills softball team.
He leaves to cherish his memory 3 sons: David of Lawrence, MA, Ricky (Janet) of Tewksbury, and Jeffrey (Consuela) of Hampton,VA; one daughter Dolores Jones (Norman) of Lawrence, MA.
One son Moses Speller,Jr. Preceded him in death. He has 8 grandchildren;
Moses Speller,III of NH, Dwight Speller of Fayetteville, NC, Shannel Jones of Lawrence, MA; Chantel and Surina Speller of Hampton, VA; Nathan Jones and his fiancee Stephanie of Lawrence, MA; Jeffrey Speller,Jr. (JJ) of Hampton,VA, and Asha Lee Speller of Tewksbury. One great grandchild, Jermaine Jones of Lawrence, MA.
5 additional great grandchildren. He is also survived by his estranged spouse, Shirleyann Speller of NC. Plethora of nieces, nephews, and friends
