Michael P. Lavin's Obituary
Michael P. Lavin, 80, a resident of Salem, NH passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at his beloved home.
Born and educated in Lawrence, MA, Michael’s love for the city was ingrained from an early age working as a loom fixer in historic mill buildings, playing baseball and enjoying a card game of 45’s with his favorites from Common Street - Tripoli’s and Napoli’s Pizza. Until his final day, these are the fondest memories Michael recounted often.
A man with many passions, Michael had a love of animals, mob movies and an affinity for horse racing, scratch tickets and casinos, specifically enjoying five trips to Las Vegas.
In the early days, Michael spent time painting houses with his brother Richard. For many years, he was employed at Raytheon in Andover where he proudly worked on the patriot missile. He later retreated to Allied Barton for security work as he neared retirement and cared for his beloved wife.
Michael always had a story to tell, at times outlandish framed with colorful language, but all true stories from a hard-working, well lived life.
The son of the late Domenick J. Lavin and Helen (Harvey) Lavin Cahill as well as husband to the late Claire M. (Lavigne) Lavin, members of Michael’s family include his daughters Michelle (Lavin) Gilmore and her husband William as well as Cheryl (Sanderson) Thibeault and her husband William. Michael is also survived by his brother Donald Lavin, grandson Jeffrey Thibeault and his fiancé Leah as well as many nieces and nephews, including special niece Kimberly Laorenza.
Funeral services will be private for the family and held on Monday, June 1, 2026 from 4pm – 7pm at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 122 Amesbury St., Lawrence MA. Burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The American Lung Association at https://donate.lung.org
