Maureen G. Perkins, long-time teacher and faculty member emerita at Brooks School and tireless social justice activist, died on Saturday, January 13, from cancer and its complications. She was 76. A native of Williamstown, Maureen Read Obituary
I send my condolences to the Perkins family. Maureen was a magnificent woman and I am happy to have been able to reconnect with her via Face Book. She was a loving and caring Dorm Mom for the first year girls at Brooks, of which I was one. Living in PBA Dorm, her house connected, she was always available. She and Skip were wonderful teachers and instilled the love of French language and culture in me to the extent I obtained my B.A. in French, taught French and was a Trade Officer in the Frenc Consulate. I will always be grateful for their dedication in teaching and compassion for their students. Maureen has a special place in my family’s memory as she helped me and my parents through a difficult time in our lives, the auto wreck off 1980.
She was a very engaging, intelligent, energetic and an empathetic woman.
May God Bless the Perkins family and give strength to Leigh and Todd as they proudly carry the memories their mom and dad in their hearts.
Love and prayers to all of Maureen's family. How well I remember the days of our "gang" on Meadow, Water and Latham Streets.....our hours of kick the can, tag and just making up games in the "Town Yard". Her Mom and my Dad grew up as neighbors and Maureen and siblings and I and my siblings grew up in the same homes next door to each other. So many memories of so many years, far too many to relate but always to be remembered. So sad to see her gone so soon but as we have no choice in these things we know there is a reason. May she always be remembered as the wonderful person she was.
The energy that she set as her bench mark in high school carried through her life and set a great example for her family and her students. Unknown by us, she lived so close to us yet so far. May her family know our condolences are with them in their loss.
