Mary Elizabeth (Stuart) Katis' Obituary
Mary Elizabeth (Stuart) Katis, 78, of Boxford, MA, the only daughter of the late Charles Francis Stuart, Jr. and Susie Mae (Mooney), passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on May 25th, 2017, in Newburyport, MA, after a courageous battle with a long illness.
Mary was born in St. Louis, Missouri on May 6th, 1939. After graduating from St. Joseph’s Academy and Maryville College she continued on to receive her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Saint Louis University.
Mary married Richard Mathew Katis of Glen Ellyn, IL on the 29th of December, 1962; recently celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in 2012. The couple made their first home in St. Louis, MO, moving to first Glen Ellyn, IL, then Andover, North Andover, and Georgetown, MA before retiring to Boxford, MA.
Mary worked in social services before starting her family. She had a diversity of interests, creative and intellectual pursuits, including art and the humanities, bridge parties and her garden. Most of all she loved her family, making friends, dancing and spending summers with her children and grandchildren on Cape Cod.
Mary was a devout Catholic who was the light in life to all who knew her, she gave of herself with an open heart, her time, her love and provoked much laughter to brighten the day for those around her; she will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Mary is survived by her devoted husband, Richard Mathew Katis and her seven daughters, Susiemae Palmer and her son Sean of North Andover, MA; Marguerite and her husband Kenneth Sabatino and their children, Abigail, Anthony and Rosemary of Westford, MA; Sarah and her husband Eric Blum and their children Samantha, Carolyn and Grace, of Boxford, MA; Alexandria Katis and Eileen Katis of Berkley, CA, Laura and her husband Mark Andrews and their children, Charlie and August, of Novato, CA; and Kathleen Katis of Haverhill, MA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 30th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Parish, Topsfield, MA. Father Michael Medas will be officiating. Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 29th at John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, 35 Merrimack Street, North Andover, MA.
