Mary Elizabeth Poole's Obituary
Mary Elizabeth Poole, 85, of Andover, MA, formerly of Lawrence, MA, entered into eternal rest on Monday, November 28, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.
Mary’s love for her late husband, Leonard, children -- Audrey (Steve), Debra (Glen), Sharon (Dale), Leonard Jr (Lisa) -- grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was as boundless as theirs for her.
Mary was born in Lawrence on May 17, 1937 to the late Peter and Marie (McNamara) Hewett, whose warmth, grace, and tenacity she embodied daily. Mary was a devoted nurse for over 50 years, admired by her Holy Family and Phillips Academy colleagues and patients for her unparalleled empathy and kindness.
Had she not been a nurse, Mary was destined for Hollywood – a jazz singer, actor, dancer, and pianist. Mary and Lenny loved to travel. Their children cherish memories of road trips to Montreal and weekends at Rockport and Crane’s Beach. In their later years, Mary and Lenny canvassed the world through trips across Europe but found nowhere they loved as much as the coasts of New England, where they and their families vacationed every summer.
Above all else, Mary is remembered for her zest for life, love of all people, and of course, her inimitable sense of fashion.
Mary’s family members include her beloved late husband of 54 years Leonard J. Poole of Andover, MA and their faithful four-legged companion, Max, who continues to thrive with his adoptive family, the Vincent family.
She is predeceased by her former husband, Martin Keithe, and survived by their daughter and Mary’s best friend, Audrey Moreland (Steve) of Andover, MA.
She was a loving mother to Audrey Moreland and her husband Steve of Andover, MA
Debra Guilmet and her husband Glen of Londonderry, NH
Sharon Little-Pekarski and her husband Dale of Londonderry, NH
And Leonard Poole, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Bothell, WA
Cherished grandmother to Stephen, John, Vanessa, Nicole, Don, Michael, Michelle, Tyler, Kenny, and Gianna. Cherished great grandmother to Taylor, Olivia, Victoria, Sawyer, Kailynn Rose, Grayson, Eloise, Ryker, Leo, Everly, and Monroe. Beloved family friend to the late Micheline “Mickey” Bielevich.
She is survived by her siblings Eleanor, Peter, and Ann; many nieces and nephews; and countless close friends.
Mary’s family expresses their appreciation to the LGH medical team of doctors and nurses, with special gratitude to Annie Ianarone, who brought unmatched compassion and care to her final days.
