Mary was the loveliest of friends. She was the first person to welcome me when I came to Mary Queen of Peace Church and we have been friends ever since that fall day in 1968. We have gone on trips and out to movies and restaurants over the years. When her brother reserved camping spots every summer I joined her for many years. We started in tents and moved to motels and then joined them a round the campfire. We lit up the year with friends in 2000 in Boston to ring in the next century. I remember special places in France like Norte Dame and San Chappell on our river boat tour on the French rivers.
But even after many trips just a quiet visit at Shadi’s or Grassfield’s was a great time to talk. She loved talking about her children and grandchildren of whom she was so proud. She was so proud of every one of them.
And she did love to sing. Even after she moved to Mary Immaculate she was able to join a small choir or singing group there. I was able to attend the ones she had there and share those special times with her.
When she could no longer drive it was a privilege to take her to appointments and of course to lunch. So many memories and so many good moments. Mary never complained or focused on her inability to walk at a faster pace. She went and she went and she plugged along always looking forward to the next outing. Her fabulous outlook on life and her faith was inspiring. We attended some classes at Merrimack College together and loved our spirited conversations about our faith and our church.
I was so sad to hear about my friend’s passing on to her new life, but so grateful for our cherished times together. Love my friend’ Mary. I will miss her
Love,Joan Lannon
