Mary Conant
To the Family of Mary Ellen McCarthy, I have a very fond memory of Ms. McCarthy when she was my son's 5th grade teacher at the Salem Street School in Lawrence. My son was a very good student and a quiet boy at the time. Ms. McCarthy was a little worried about him because there was another boy who was somewhat pushy. She was afraid that he would get the best of my son. However, one day during recess the pushy boy tried to intimidate my son and another student but my son stood up to the boy. Ms. McCarthy was delighted. When she relayed this story to me she actually had tears in her eyes. I knew then she was a very dedicated teacher and really loved her students. I think she was a special lady and a great teacher. Years later my son got acceptance and attended/graduated with distinction from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. When I gave his graduation party I invited Ms. McCarthy because I felt she was one teacher who helped my son to get there. She declined the invitation but did send along a wonderful card and a gift. My son was a career Air Force officer. A Lt. Col. when he passed away at the young age of 40. Lt. Col. Sean M. Judge. Some teachers are very special and Ms. McCarthy was one of them, no doubt. My heartfelt sympathies to all of her family and friends. God Bless. Warm regards, Mary Conant
