Mary E. (O'Neill) McGowan's Obituary
Mary E. (O'Neill) McGowan, 87, a resident of Lawrence, MA, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2012 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House surrounded by her loving family. Born in Lawrence, Mary was educated in Lawrence and was a 1942 graduate of St. Mary's High School. Mary had worked at the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles for some 25 years. She had been a former member of the Board of Directors of the Lawrence Senior Center. She was also an honorary member of the St. Rita's Sodality at Holy Rosary Church. Mary had been very active in city politics, but her biggest love was for her grandchildren. The widow of Francis X. McGowan, Sr, as well as mother of the late Francis X. McGowan, Jr, members of Mary's family include: a son: Father Dennis M. McGowan, O.S.A., of Bryn Mawr, PA, a daughter: Mary Beth Gangi and her husband Joseph Gangi of North Andover, MA, grandchildren: C.J. Gangi and his wife JoAnn of North Andover, MA, and Erin, Tara, Paul, and Caitlin Gangi all of North Andover, MA, a sister-in-law: June McGowan of Tewksbury, MA, a brother-in-law: Thomas Enright of both Methuen, MA and Spring Hill FL, an aunt: Claire Guarini of North Andover, MA, as well as many nieces and nephews. Mary was also sister of the late former Alderman James O'Neill and Rita A. Enright. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Lawrence, MA. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, also in Lawrence, MA. Family and friends may call on Thursday, October 25, 2012 from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 122 Amesbury St., Lawrence, MA.
