Mary M. Casey's Obituary
Mary M. Casey, 101 years young of Lawrence, MA, died peacefully in her sleep on December 13, 2023.
Mary was born on July 29, 1922, and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Bresnahan) Casey who had emigrated from Ireland. She attended St. Patrick’s Grammar School in Lawrence and graduated from St. Patrick’s High School.
Mary was a lifelong communicant of St. Patrick’s Parish. She was a Eucharistic Minister, assisted with the RCIA and baptismal programs, volunteered in St. Matthew’s Guild, and was a member of Our Lady Sodality.
Mary was employed in the Comptroller Department at the State House in Boston until her retirement. She often reminisced fondly and proudly of these years, commuting into Boston, and working on Beacon Hill. Later, Mary became a volunteer at Holy Family Hospital, a member of St. Clare League, and spent time reading to students and assisting with projects at local elementary schools.
She was predeceased by her late brothers and sisters: John, Timothy, Brendan, Thomas, Francis, Edward, Anne, and Helen.
Aunty Mary will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She was an inspiration to us all and she viewed the world with a positive and spirited outlook. She loved flowers and gardening, Boston sports teams, and crossword puzzles. Most of all, she cherished the many family celebrations and holiday gatherings over the years.
Aunty Mary is survived by many generations of nieces and nephews who were blessed to have her as a guiding matriarch, especially her nieces Mary Lou Lang and her husband Jack of Methuen, MA; and Kathy Donohue and her husband Wayne of Salem, NH. Her kind, loving soul and zest for life will be missed by all. Her family would like to give a special thanks to neighbors Brian and Francine Gigliotti for their generosity and many acts of kindness over the years.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. in St. Patrick’s Church, 118 South Broadway, Lawrence, MA. Burial will follow in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in North Andover, MA.
