Martha M. Martinez's Obituary
Martha Margarita (Vega) Martinez, age 68 passed away on Sunday, May 19th, 2019. She was born in Santurce Puerto Rico. In 1964 her family came to Lawrence as her dad was a Christian minister who was assigned here. She was predeceased by her parents Rev. Rodrigo (Carmen) Vega, her brother William Vega, and her daughter Michelle Marie Martinez. She graduated from Lawrence High School class of 1969 and attended Northeastern University. As a teenager she worked at various factors (Reid-Meridith Wig Factory, J.P. Stevens Textile Mills) to help the family She worked at Holy Family (Bon Secour) Hospital Radiology retiring after 25 years of service.
She enjoyed family gatherings and was called upon to make the rice for many of them, she also made a great ambrosia. She loved her pistachios and sunflower seeds. A loving and caring mother and wife, she is survived by her husband of 48 years Miguel A. (Cano) Martinez, her sons and their wives, Marco A. and Veronica Martinez, and Miguel A. (Mikey) and Jena Martinez and her grandchildren, Olivia, Juliette, Marco, Karina, Jacob, her brothers James (Madeline), Rodger, John (Abby) and Rene (Maria) and her sister Nilsa and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and other loving relatives.
Martha had an unwavering faith in God. Her favorite expression was, "God willing". She was a longtime member of MAJES Church. She enjoyed Bible study and spending time with friends and family. She had a very kind heart and an infectious laugh. You couldn't help but laugh along with her. Martha also enjoyed listening to "doo-wop", watching movies with her grandchildren, and sharing memories.
On Sunday May 19th she passed away surrounded by her family and friends who sang her favorite hymns as she passed. The family gives everyone who cared for Martha their greatest gratitude. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family will receive friends at a service celebrating her life on Tuesday, May 28th, 2019, from 6:00 — 8:00 PM at John Breen Funeral Home, Amesbury St., Lawrence, MA.
