Marilyn Rae (Squires) Becker (1938-2023)
Marilyn Rae Becker, 85, died peacefully on October 24, 2023. She was born in Oberlin, Ohio in 1938 to Marie and Robert Squires, Sr., and graduated from Amherst High School in Amherst, Ohio. She earned her RN in Nursing from the Providence School of Nursing in Sandusky, Ohio, and worked as a hospital nurse, private duty nurse, and then school nurse in Ohio.
Marilyn and her husband (John) Barry (1935-2009) raised their four children in Vermilion: Pamela, Scott, Rae Dene (Norton) and Jenifer. They were active in St Mary Parish and in the children’s school activities. Marilyn and Barry then moved to the Atlanta, Georgia area, where she enjoyed gardening and being a member of the Atlanta Writers Association – and hosting their children and their two grandchildren, Joshua and Michael, for family get-togethers. Her dogs were comforting companions to both of them in their later years – Cassie, then Sabrina and finally, Sully.
Marilyn moved to Beverly, MA in 2010 to be near family, who appreciated her sense of humor and the lively family discussions held around current events. Never one to back down from her theory of what was truly happening, “Mom” will be missed.
