Margaret Hart's Obituary
Margaret Hart, 91, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2019 at the Prescott House In North Andover.
Margaret was born on January 12, 1928 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, to the late William I. and Mary (Connolly) Hart. She was the oldest of five children. Margaret was educated in the local school system and graduated from Saint Mary’s High School before attending Good Counsel College in White Plains, New York. She received her master’s degree in education from Boston State College in 1957.
Margaret was a devoted teacher, to public school students and to her 12 nieces and nephews and their children. She taught in Lawrence Public and Boston Public Schools, spending much of her career as a first grade teacher and a bilingual reading teacher. Margaret was fluent in Spanish and did two tours as a Peace Corps teacher trainer, serving for two years in Belize and for two years in Honduras.
Margaret was a passionate citizen of the city of Lawrence well into her 80s. She was commonly spotted on the MVRTA, walking about town and speaking with local children in Spanish. She was beloved “Auntie” to her siblings’ children and grandchildren.
Margaret is survived by her sister, Virginia (Hart) Sullivan, of North Andover, as well as her nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother William Hart and her sisters Patricia (Hart) O’Donnell and Sister Mary Hart.
Relatives and friends may call on a Tuesday, March 19, 2019 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 122 Amesbury Street, Lawrence MA.
A funeral Mass for Margaret will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 19 at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church in Lawrence. Burial will be private. For online condolences and other information please visit us at www.breenfuneralhome.com.
