It was with great sadness that I learned of your father's death. I knew Joe from the 1960's to the mid 1980's. I worked in the Personnel Organization and got to know your father during the many meetings I had with him. I always enjoyed talking with him. He was one classy guy.

My heartfelt condolences to Mary and Joe's children. He was an outstanding citizen of Lawrence and will be missed for his wonderful sense of humor, knowledge and wisdom. My heart is heavy with the sadness for you Paula, and all of your family. May you find comfort in knowing your Mom was welcoming your Dad at the gates of heaven. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Joe will not only be remembered as a great Labor Activist, but also and more significantly as a great friend and compassionate man for working families, the less fortunate and the struggling. His smile and wit will be so sorely missed by all of us in CWA Local 1365 ? active and retired and certainly by immeasurable numbers beyond our Union family. His passion for activism for those less fortunate, I am sure, will inspire many of us to follow his lead of empathy and activism for our communities, working families and retirees. His legacy with our Local Union will be long remembered and held forever in our hearts. I do pray his family will find strength in the fact that Joe touched so many in such a special and profound way ? he changed many of our lives through his works and dedication. We would like to express our condolences to the entire Sweeney family. Joe was the kindest and most ardent supporter of the entire Merrimack Valley community through his seemingly endless volunteer work. There will never be another Joe. God bless.
