Joseph L DiZoglio Sr.'s Obituary
Joseph L DiZoglio Sr. 90 years old of Moultonboro, NH and Peabody, MA passed away peacefully March 23, 2020 at the Lahey Hospital in Burlington, MA. He was born in Lawrence, MA on May 20, 1929 to the late Angelo and Providenza (Carabello) DiZoglio and was proud of his Italian heritage and family.
Joseph was a disabled veteran of the US Army who served his country proudly during the Korean War. He was a retired Lawrence Police officer for nearly 30 years who served the city as a patrolman, a detective on the Arson Squad and as a handler for the K9 unit. A true entrepreneur, Joe was the owner of several small businesses including A-Quality Fence Company. He was politically active during many campaigns, supporting family and veterans’ rights. Actively working up until his death as Trustee at the Disabled American Veterans (DAV Chapter 2, Service Center), Joe helped many veterans. The business cards he asked his grandnephew to order so young veterans would know where to receive help and advice arrived posthumously.
Joseph was a man of great faith, attending Mass and daily reciting the Rosary. While working with his nephew at NASCAR, Masters Tournaments and Super Bowls; Joe combined two of his favorite things, helping others and traveling. Joe would easily strike up a conversation with everyone he met including many celebrities. He was a natural leader when partner dancing. He enjoyed spending time at Heavenly Donuts with his many friends from the Merrimack Valley. His signature “shave and a haircut” knock which was fondly answered by “Oh no, Uncle Joe!” will be greatly missed by many generations.
Joe was survived by his beloved wife Helen Peveri and her family. Joe also leaves behind his daughter Dawn and her husband Robert Brazeau and his son Joseph (Jay) L DiZoglio, Jr of Aurora, Colorado. He was predeceased by his first wife, Diane Blanchard DiZoglio and his son David M DiZoglio who passed away in September 2019. He leaves behind 5 grandchildren: Michael J DiZoglio, Joel and Jordan Brazeau and Angela and Vincent DiZoglio. Joe was also predeceased by his siblings Louis DiZoglio, Rosario (Ray) DiZoglio, Angelina Bova DeCorpo, John A DiZoglio, Sr. and Alfred (Freddy) DiZoglio. He also leaves many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and beloved friends behind.
Offer a moment of silence, say the Pledge of Allegiance or pray the Rosary not only in Joseph’s memory but for an end to this pandemic so that we can gather together for a proper memorial service and celebration of Joseph’s life. Godspeed.
