Mr. John J. Hartnett's Obituary
John J. Hartnett, 85, a longtime resident of Methuen, Mass., passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2017, at the Salemhaven Nursing Home following a long battle with cancer and diabetes.
John was born in Lawrence, Mass., and moved to Methuen in 1960. He attended the Tarbox School and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1950. John enlisted in the United States Army in March of 1951. He served as a Sergeant with the Second Infantry Division in Korea. He joined the Lawrence Post Office as a Letter Carrier and retired in 1987. John delivered a route in the Arlington District of Methuen for 24 consecutive years. He was an avid gardener and great sports fan. He loved all of the Boston sports teams. John was a devout member of St. Monica’s Church in Methuen.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah A. (Cronin) Hartnett.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 13, 2017, at 11 a.m. in St. Monica’s Church, 212 Lawrence St., Methuen, MA. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence, MA. Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, November 12, 2017 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 122 Amesbury St., Lawrence, MA.
