John Charles Friel's Obituary
John Charles Friel, 83, a former resident of North Andover, MA, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, MA.
The son of the late Charles N. and Katherine E. (Meehan) Friel, John was born on June 11, 1941, in Haverhill, MA and was a 1960 graduate of North Andover High School. He served 13 years with two tours of duty in the Unites States Army during Vietnam. John earned two Purple Hearts and the Oak Cluster with two Bronze Stars. He saw service in Turkey, Germany, Okinawa, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. John also served at Fort Devens. MA, as well as being in the Army Security Agency. John had worked in the Teamsters Union as a truck driver for some 20 years with Daly Drug which then was bought out by Cardinal Health. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Members of John’s family include his brothers: Charles M. Friel, Jr. and his wife Linda of Groveland, MA, and Michael D. Friel and his partner Nancy Barnes of Haverhill, MA, a nephew Jason Friel and nieces: Danielle Cain and Gillian Chartier. He is also survived by several cousins including first cousins: John Cussen of Hampstead, NH, Ann Cussen of Andover, MA, and Nancy (Friel) Gill of Barnstable, MA.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 35 Merrimack St., North Andover, MA.
