James E. Henderson Jr.'s Obituary
James E. Henderson, Jr., affectionately known as “Jr.,” passed away suddenly on May 23, 2025, at the age of 51. A lifelong resident of North Andover, Jr. was the loving and loyal son of James E. Henderson, Sr. and Deborah J. Henderson.
Athletic and adventurous, Jr. grew up as a Boy Scout, was an avid hiker, and a skilled hockey player. He began playing hockey at the age of five and continued through high school. He climbed Mt. Washington several times, as well as Cannon Mountain, overlooking the Old Man of the Mountain. Jr. was a proud graduate of Central Catholic High School and attended Northern Essex Community College. His adventurous spirit led him to travel the world while working for Northwest Airlines out of Southern California. During his travels, he developed a passion for collecting antiques and one-of-a-kind treasures. He was incredibly proud of his English heritage, and enjoyed collecting and restoring memorabilia that he often gifted to his parents.
Eventually, Jr. returned to North Andover to work alongside his father in the family business, Essex Sign & Painting, where he was a dedicated and valued employee. More than anything, he cherished the simple joys of life: working with his dad, bringing his mom Starbucks coffee each morning, and spending time with his beloved sister and two nieces. His favorite part of every week was Sunday morning breakfast at his mom and dad’s, where steak, eggs, and beans were on the menu—and Jr. could always be found laughing and enjoying time with his family.
He is survived by his parents, James Sr. and Deborah Henderson of North Andover; his sister, Sarah E. (Henderson) Bailes and her husband, Todd L. Bailes, of Boxford; and his adored nieces, Charlotte (13) and Jamison (9). He also leaves behind many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, coworkers, and friends who will deeply miss his warmth, humor, and generous heart. Visiting hours will be held from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm on Saturday, May 31st at John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, 35 Merrimack St., North Andover, MA 01845. A service will be held immediately following the calling hours at 12:00 pm, May 31st at John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, 35 Merrimack St., North Andover, MA 01845.
