Henry "Hank" Joseph Hamel's Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the loss of our beloved husband and father Hank Hamel on December 29, 2021. He was born in Lawrence, MA and was a current resident of North Andover, MA. He died from pneumonia at Whittier Pulmonary Rehab Hospital in Bradford, MA. Hank served the USA well by enlisting in the Naval Reserve at 17, was a Midshipman at Villanova University where he graduated in 1969, followed by four years as Lieutenant JG in the US Navy until 1973. This was followed by service as an officer in the US Coast Guard Reserve for three years. He did his MBA work at the University of Southern New Hampshire and retired from the Department of Homeland Security, US Coast Guard in 2015. His love of the ocean extended to his life-long enjoyment of boating. As an avid sailor and racer he was a Life Long Member of the American Yacht Club in Newburyport, MA. He traveled extensively with his wife of 52 years Kathleen Pitochelli Hamel of North Andover. They raised two beautiful daughters Alyssa Ainsworth and Maria Hamel. Hank was a volunteer coach for all their basketball and soccer games in school. He serenaded them playing his treasured Martin guitar and loved to make people laugh. Hank is also survived by his grandson Emmett Oliver Ainsworth, his son-in-law Lucas Ainsworth, sisters Rita Arsenault of Andover, MA, Irene Proulx of Atkinson, NH, sisters-in-law Fran McCormick of Somerville, MA, Mary Pitochelli of Andover, MA and many nieces, nephews and friends. With respect for the health and well being of our family and friends, there will not be any public service. Please do not send flowers. Memorial contributions to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. All funeral arrangements were made by John Breen Funeral Home in North Andover, MA.
