I went to the Tenney Grammar school and high school with Harley. I was new to the Methuen school system in the fifth grade, and my family had just moved from another state, so I really didn't know anyone. Harley was the first best friend I had there. He was the first to introduce himself, the first to come visit my house and invite me over to his. We didn't have much in common, and did not speak much after sixth grade, but the welcome and friendship that he shared with me for that time is very special to me. If all young people were as friendly and open as Harley was to me, there would be a happy, cheerful place for any child who felt lonely like I did.
