Grace Shirley (McGrath) Cain's Obituary
Grace Shirley (McGrath) Cain, 81, of Andover, formerly of North Andover, Massachusetts passed peacefully on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at the Academy Manor Nursing Home in Andover, MA. She was born in Lawrence on August 2, 1935 daughter of the late Thomas E. McGrath and Evelyn A. (Fraize) McGrath. Shirley was educated in the Lawrence Schools and was a graduate of Lawrence High School in June of 1952.
Shirley worked as a Stewardess in her younger years in Northeast Airlines in Boston, at the Internal Revenue Services and as a Teacher’s Aide at the Arlington School in Lawrence while she was raising her children. She later retired from the Internal Revenue Service.
According to her family she had a wonderful sense of humor. The family would like to give a special thank you to her Best Friend of 72 years, Doris Ebert Lapadula who visited her regularly since 2013 at the Academy Manor Nursing Home. They share many memories and as usual great laughs. Also special thanks to all the staff at the Academy Manor Nursing Home who gave her wonderful care during her 4 year stay. Especially to the third floor A3 nursing staff, who as they told me she was much loved here and we will all miss her terribly, she was one of a kind. Shirley was loved for her wonderful sense of humor, and when she would laugh, everyone would laugh.
She was so proud of her 3 grandsons and was very involved in their lives as a wonderful caring grandmother. Her love of animals, nature, the Beach, Florida, she would never sit still, always looking for the next adventure.
