Gladys E. (Petzold) Mannion's Obituary
Gladys E. (Petzold) Mannion, 93, a resident of the Nevins Nursing Home in Methuen, MA, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 26, 2010 at the Nursing Home after a brief illness. Born in Methuen, Gladys attended the Methuen Schools and was an attendant of St. Monica's Church. She was the last surviving Gold Star Mother of the Vietnam era from the Merrimack Valley area. Gladys was the president of several clubs which include the Koza Cafe in Methuen, and the Rocky and British Clubs in Lawrence. She enjoyed playing Mrs. Santa Claus for the Rocky Clubs Children's Christmas party. Gladys loved to be with her family. Gladys was the beloved mother of 12 children, 43 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren. The wife of the late Phillip J. Mannion, she was predeceased by her sons: Dennis, Charles, and William Mannion, and by her daughter Shirley Bilodeau. Gladys is survived by her children: Patricia Allain and her husband Thomas of Ft. Myers, FL James Mannion and his wife Marie of Methuen, MA Carol Penny and her husband William of Brooksville, FL Edward Mannion and his wife Margaret of Canada Pamela Davidian and her husband James of Haverhill, MA Diane Wall and her husband Alan of Northwood, NH Thomas Mannion and his wife Leslie of North Andover, MA and Gary Mannion and his wife Sandy of Haverhill, MA she is also survived by daughter-in-laws Avis and Frances Mannion. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at 9:00 A.M. in St. Monica's Church in Methuen. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence. Family and friends may call on Monday, November 29, 2010 from 4 to 7 P.M. and Tuesday, November 30, 2010 from 5 to 8 P.M. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 122 Amesbury St., Lawrence.
