Giuseppe Longo's Obituary
Giuseppe Longo, 86, of Lawrence, Massachusetts passed away on June 25, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
The youngest of six children, he was born in 1936 in Nicolosi, Catania, Italy to Antonino and Maria Santa Longo.
He arrived in the US in 1953 and worked in the textile and shoe industries and for Bond Leather Company in Peabody for many years until his retirement. He loved spending time at home gardening, cooking, baking bread and best of all making his homemade wine, often with the help of his son, Anthony. He enjoyed hunting with friends in his younger years and fishing with his son. He was handy around the house and could fix anything. He enjoyed working with his hands.
Giuseppe was always willing to help anyone in need and would help his children with projects at their homes as well. To his nieces in Italy, he was always the “cool” uncle and loved all of his nieces and nephews dearly, both here and in Italy. He loved all of his grandchildren and would look forward to traveling to the different states where his grandsons would move to.
He was predeceased by his daughter Maria Longo and is survived by his wife of 53 years Lidia Maria (Manteria); his son Anthony, his daughter Sabrina and her husband Eric Gallant of Merrimack NH as well as his four grandchildren, Samantha and Lillian Gallant and Constantine III and Nicolas Angeles. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Josephine Longo of North Andover.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 7, 2023, at 11:30 A.M. at St. Michael’s Church, 196 Main Street, North Andover, MA. Burial will follow in the West Parish Garden Cemetery, 129 Reservation Road, Andover, MA. Relatives and friends are invited to call prior to the funeral mass from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 35 Merrimack St., North Andover, MA.
