Coach Baker was one of the most inspiring and encouraging men in my life as a young boy. He taught us kids how to perform as a team. It didn't matter if we won or lost, on those cold Saturday mornings everyone got a hot chocolate after the football game! He taught us not only teamwork, but also sportsmanship. It really did not matter if we won or lost, it was truly how we played the game.
He was also selfless and caring. When my brother got hurt during a scrimmage game, Coach Baker's station wagon doubled as an ambulance.
What appear to some as minor or simple acts of kindness can have a large impact on someone else, especially a child.
The virtues that Coach Baker and the rest of the Methuen Youth Football League coaches instilled in me have lasted a lifetime.
Rest in Peace, Coach Baker. May the Angels come to greet you and lead you to the Heavenly Kingdom.
