Genevieve R. (Killeen) Foley's Obituary
Genevieve R. (Killeen) Foley, widow of Vincent P. Foley, Sr, former Lawrence Alderman and Director of Public Safety, passed away at the home of her daughter Justine, Monday evening, May 16. She was 98. The daughter of the late Thomas and Genevieve (McDonough) Killeen, Mrs. Foley is survived by four daughters and three sons: Patricia Karl and her husband Russell of North Andover; Vincent P. Foley, Jr. and his wife Jeanne of Hampton, NH; Justine Croteau and her husband Robert of Andover with whom she lived; Barbara Jensen and her husband William of Methuen, Cathy Foley of North Andover, Thomas Foley and his wife Virginia of Hooksett, NH, and Michael Foley and his wife Beth of Walnut Creek, CA. She was predeceased by her daughter Mary Beth Foley, RN. Mrs. Foley is also survived by fifteen grandchildren: Kristin Karl Carnahan, Jennifer Karl Sylvester, Stephen Karl, Kevin Foley, Jeffrey Foley, Timothy Foley, Brian Croteau, Sean Croteau, Erin Croteau Stefanek, Katrina Jensen Hunter, Lisa Jensen Rasanen, Meghan Jensen Long, Michelle Foley, Sean Foley and Patrick Foley and twenty-four great-grandchildren: Liam, Katherine and Connor Carnahan; Samantha, Gannon and Ryan Sylvester; Tucker Karl; Connor, Aidan and Owen Foley; Ethan, Henry and Reese Foley; Grace and Hannah Foley; August Croteau, Ella and Brynn Stefanek; Trevor and Jacob Hunter; Emma and Ashley Rasanen and Declan and Maeve Long. She was the sister of the late Dr. Thomas F. Killeen. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews including Jennifer Killeen Hanlon, Michelle Killeen Phillips and Eileen Foley Everett. She is also survived by life-long friends Mae Lawlor Burns and Mary Buckley Haynes. Mrs. Foley was born and educated in Lawrence. She was a 1935 graduate of Lawrence High School and attended McIntosh Business College. Prior to her marriage she was employed at the Northern Essex Registry of Deeds. In later years she was a Teacher?s Aide in the Lawrence Public Schools and a Senior Accounts Bookkeeper for the Lawrence Housing Authority. A longtime member of St. Augustine (Our Lady of Good Counsel) Parish of Tower Hill, she was secretary of the Mothers? Guild. She was a member and former board member of the St. Claire League of Catholic Women; President of the Lawrence Lady Elks and Sergeant-at-Arms for the Ladies? Ancient Order of Hibernians. She was a member of the Holy Family Hospital Auxiliary, Lawrence General Hospital Auxiliary and was a volunteer at LGH for twelve years. Born in 1918, Mrs. Foley continued as an avid Red Sox fan throughout her life and was a dedicated cheerleader for the athletic competitions of her grandchildren. She enjoyed family gatherings and extensive travel to California, Alaska, Hawaii and throughout Europe, with a number of trips to Ireland. She was a winter resident of Clearwater Beach, Florida for twenty-seven years and was an avid reader who also enjoyed jigsaw and word puzzles. Mrs. Foley and her husband enjoyed ballroom dancing at Hampton Beach and Canobie Lake Park, travel and Broadway plays. Mrs. Foley was a resident of Lawrence most of her life and in recent years was a resident of Andover at the home of Justine and Robert Croteau. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 20, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. in Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish at St. Augustine Chapel, 128 Ames St., Lawrence, MA. Burial will take place at a later date. Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, May 19, 2016 from 4 to 8 P.M. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 122 Amesbury St., Lawrence, MA.
