Edith Theresa Nahill's Obituary
Edith “Edie” Theresa (McLarney) Nahill, aged 90, of Winchester and formerly of North Andover died peacefully in her sleep on May 30th after a long and happy life. Beloved wife of the late William A. Nahill for almost 50 years, Edith was born in Lowell, MA to the late Cornelius P. and Ethel (Myers) McLarney was the fifth of seven children. Edith grew up in Dracut, MA and graduated from Dracut High School in 1949. Edith was a member of St. Joseph’s Melkite Church in Lawrence and a longtime Sunday school teacher. Edith was a devoted mother and wife, a voracious reader, seamstress, accomplished cook, and an avid gardener. Tempered by the Great Depression and World War II, Edie prioritized family, faith, and concern for the common good above all else. She steadfastly promoted civility in public discourse, equality among all people, and truth as the most important guiding principle. She also reminded those fortunate enough to be in her company of the beauty of the ocean and the Great outdoors and the importance of simple fun.
Edith is survived by her nine children, Jeanne M. Kempthorne and her husband Doug Cannon of Pittsfield MA, William A. Nahill, Jr. and his wife Susan of Middletown, RI, Sharon R. Nahill and her husband James Schor of Meredith, NH, Ann W. Nahill of Portsmouth, NH, Roberta S. Nahill and her husband Gary Becker of Saratoga Springs, NY, John P. Nahill and his wife Maureen of Winchester, MA, Patricia L. Leighton and her husband Michael of Holland, PA, James E. Nahill and his wife Kathryn of Needham, MA and Martha J. Frahm and her husband Timothy of Winchester, MA. Edith is also survived by her twenty grandchildren: Lucien O’Rourke, William and Jonathan Nahill, Oliver Schor, Caitlin and William Clarke, Kathleen Blanchard, Tara Gorry, MT, Caroline and John P. Nahill, Julie, Nicholas, Michael, and Theresa Leighton, Liam and Jack Nahill and John, David and Michael Frahm. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Nicole and Graham Nahill, Liam and Leila Blanchard, Nicholas and Miles Leighton and “Theodore Gorry. She leaves her sister Ethel “Sally” Healy of York, ME (formerly of Goffstown, NH) and her four sisters-in- law, Barbara McLarney of Andover, MA, Hilda Nahill of Salem, NH and Janice McLarney of Tyngsboro, MA, and Judith McLarney of Andover, Ma. Edie is also survived by numerous beloved nieces and nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by her siblings Cornelius P. McLarney, Mary Lou Corbin, Richard McLarney, Paul McLarney and Francis McLarney.
