I met Trudy in 1965 when we were classmates in the Boston College master?s degree program for nurses. There were only 3 of us in the program. Trudy and, the then, Sister Jean were very able students who kept me constantly on my toes as I tried to keep up with them in scholarly activities. Trudy?s good humor was often helpful as the 3 of us struggled through the program. We became quite close, sharing darker and lighter moments. Later, when my husband and I were blessed with the birth of our son, Tim - Trudy and Sister Jean were among the first to come and admire and hold our new baby. Who would have known that 10 years later, Trudy would visit us in San Francisco and get to meet our, then, school age son? She was always interested in Tim. But of all my memories of Trudy, what stands out most was her faith in me that was stronger than my faith in myself. I?ll be forever grateful to Trudy for persuading me - finally - to apply for a position at the Bedford VA Hospital. I thought the demands of the position were way beyond my capability but Trudy - bless her heart ? kept insisting they weren?t. The position was the best, most stimulating position I?ve ever had. Our sympathy goes out to Trudy?s family and especially, to Trudy?s beloved niece Elizabeth and beloved nephews, Eddie and Chris.
