Doreen A. Albiston's Obituary
Doreen A. Albiston of Boxford, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 30, 2024. She was 76. She was born to William and Dorothy (Multer) Albiston in Rockville Centre, New York. Doreen grew up on Long Island, New York. After high school, she earned her undergraduate degree in Education from Radford University and her graduate degree from Adelphi University.
As a high school teacher, she taught Physical Education at West Babylon High School in New York and for the U.S. Department of Defense in Heidelberg, Germany. On her return to the USA, she transitioned to a career in information technology, which included senior positions at Unisys, the U.S. House of Representatives, and Marriott Corporation. For Unisys, she traveled the world to (5) continents with assignments in China, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Europe, and the U.K. At the House of Representatives, she led the implementation team for Congress' first e-mail system. This project included coordination with the White House and earned her recognition in E-Mail Addresses of the Rich and Famous. At Marriott headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland, she led the implementation of the company's first website. After retiring from her career, she focused on raising her son, Andrew, and worked in the Boxford School System at the Spofford Pond Elementary School library. She recently founded the William and Joan Albiston Biology Scholarship at Adelphi University.
She enjoyed fitness workouts and outdoor activities, including bicycling, skiing, tennis, and walking her dogs in the woods. Her lifelong passion was running, and she completed (9) marathons, numerous triathlons, and other road races. She and her family loved to travel and learn about people from all over the world. She was a voracious reader and loved to sit in the sun and read a book in her backyard amongst the flowers and trees. She was a Boxford Village Garden Club member, enjoyed projects with club members, and created beautiful flower beds in her own gardens. She was a member of the Peaked Hill Trust and loved the solitude of the Dune Shacks on Cape Cod. She was an avid sports fan, and among her favorite athletes were Tom Brady, Larry Bird, and Tiger Woods. She was well-informed on world events and very passionate about her politics. Her pride and joy was her son Andrew (Drew), whom she raised with her husband in Virginia, Texas, and Boxford. She so enjoyed watching Drew play sports in his youth and his success in his business career.
