Claire E. McCarthy's Obituary
Claire E. McCarthy, 93, was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts in May 1931, and peacefully passed away at her home with hospice care on November 10, 2024. She was deeply cherished by her family and friends and lovingly remembered for her unwavering kindness and generosity.
After graduating from St. Mary’s High School, Claire embarked on a successful career in the insurance industry, starting with Smart & Flag of Andover, which later became Fred C. Church Insurance. She dedicated herself to her profession until her retirement at the age of 82. Claire was also an active member of the St. Monica and St. Michael Women’s Guilds.
A true animal lover, Claire had a special bond with her beloved cat, Jenny. She found joy in scenic drives along the New Hampshire Seacoast and loved dining out with friends and family, particularly at Markey’s Lobster Pool in Seabrook.
Claire was predeceased by her parents, Vincent and Loretta McCarthy, and her sister, Mary Frances. She is survived by her cousins: Ronald Bevin and his wife Mary Jane of The Villages, FL; Sean Herdegen and his wife Diane of Methuen, MA; Kelly Smith and her husband Brian of Sandown, NH; Steve Herdegen and Kaitlyn Malcrit of Haverhill, MA; and Steve Bailey of Tenants Harbor, ME.
A funeral service will be held at St. Monica Church in Methuen, MA, on December 5, 2024, at 11:00 AM, directly followed by a burial service at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Salem Animal Rescue League, St. Monica Parish in Methuen, MA, or Hospice House of Haverhill.
