Sgt. Charles "Charlie" M. Saindon's Obituary
Surrounded by his loving family, Lawrence Police Sergeant Charles “Charlie” M. Saindon, 44, passed away at Brigham and Women’s Hospital Boston on Monday, February 26, 2024, after a brief illness. Charlie leaves behind his soulmate, Kelley and adored children Cassidy and David. Beloved son to Linda Lasonde and Charles Saindon, and cherished brother to Cynthia. Born December 17, 1979, and raised in South Lawrence, Charlie was a graduate of Saint Patrick Grammar School, and a 1998 graduate of Andover High School. He continued his education obtaining an associate degree in criminal justice from Northern Essex Community College. Charlie recently celebrated his 20th year on the Lawrence Police Department, he was honored and proud to serve and protect. Charlie is known for his deep love for family and boundless integrity.
In pursuit of his professional goals, Charlie served on Lawrence Auxiliary Police from 2001 to 2003. In May of 2003, he was appointed a police officer for the Lawrence Police Department. He completed his police academy training at the Lowell Police Academy graduating in October of 2003. This was the foundation for a life full of achievements and service. Charlie was immediately recognized as a gifted and talented police officer by his peers, as well as the command staff. He received the Department’s Patrol Division Officer of the Year in 2005 and later the Department’s Community Policing Division Officer of the Year in 2007. In 2020, he, along with his partner in the Auto Theft Unit, was awarded Exchange Club of Lawrence 2019 Policeman of the Year.
As a result of his hard work and dedication in addition to his time in the patrol division, he served in varied assignments within the department including Community Policing, K-9, Auto-Theft Detective, Marine Unit, and Motorcycle Unit. His most rewarding responsibility was the role of Field Training Officer (FTO). He took this role as a personal responsibility to countless emerging police officers to ensure they were equipped and prepared to serve and protect, their safety being paramount. Watching others grow, better themselves, and succeed gave him such joy. Upon being promoted to Sergeant in October of 2021, he returned to the patrol division on Platoon 1 the “midnight shift” “night watch”. He immediately became a trusted advisor and mentor to so many of the young officers with whom he led, shaping them both professionally and personally.
In addition to his law enforcement career in Lawrence, Charlie was assigned to the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC) Motor Unit. As a result of the city’s budgetary crisis in 2010, Charlie, along with 25 fellow police officers, was laid off. During this time, he served as police officer in the City of Revere from November 2010 to September 2011. He was also a staff instructor at Northern Essex Community College Police Academy.
He was a loyal and trusted friend to many, always willing to help, listen, and make them laugh. Charlie loved the outdoors: riding his motorcycle, boating, fishing, four wheeling, and snowmobiling to name a few hobbies and he was great at all of them. Eclectic music selections with Pink Floyd and Johnny Cash as rival favorites. Enjoyed spending time in the gym lifting or cardio, spending many of his earlier days at the YMCA in Andover. He loved the New Hampshire lakes region particularly Winnisquam Lake, and Pittsburg. He worked hard to be the proud owner of a little slice of heaven in Pittsburg, and never missed an opportunity to spend family time there.
It was at Winnisquam Lake that he met the love of his life Kelley (McMenimen). The teenage sweethearts fell in love and were married in 2006. Together they had two beautiful children Cassidy age 16, and David age 14. In a word, his wife and children were his “world”. He was the best husband and father anyone could ever ask for; he was at his happiest when he was with them. He was very proud of his children and loved attending their many athletic events. He enjoyed sharing his love for outdoors with both his children and his wife. His teachings will be cherished by his family and will live on for generations to come.
Charlie will be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. His legacy will live on through those he loved.
