Charles E. Cassidy's Obituary
Charles E. Cassidy passed away peacefully on May 6, 2024 with family by his side. Chuck, as he was known to all, was born in Lawrence, MA on June 28, 1932, and lived nearly his entire life in South Lawrence, first on Abbot Street, and later on Beacon St. His parents, Thomas and Margaret (Ryan) Cassidy, both worked in the Lawrence textile mill. He attended St. Patrick’s School and served as an altar boy. He worked at Mohegan Market, Canobie Lake Park, and Hampton Beach during his teen years. Immediately after graduating from Lawrence High School in 1949, Chuck and his friends Joe Finn and Wally Town enlisted in the Air Force. Joe and Chuck would become lifelong friends. Chuck spent four years as a radio operator, including deployments in Hawaii and Johnston Island in the Pacific as well as Montana. After returning, he attended Mass Radio School in Boston with the intention of joining the Merchant Marines. However, he soon met Adrienne Broggini, who would become his partner for life. They married on August 20, 1960 at St. Patrick’s Church in Lawrence, MA. Their son Chuck was born the following year. Chuck senior took a job a Raytheon, first in Shawsheen and then in West Andover, where he worked for over 30 years, rising to the title of engineer in the environmental lab. He was honored to be involved in the development of the Patriot defense missile. Outside of work, Chuck became a mentor to many who benefitted from his eternally positive attitude and constructive advice. Chuck and Adrienne loved to spend summers at Seabrook Beach and returned to Lake George each year to celebrate their wedding anniversary. After retirement, they spent winters in Sarasota, FL, and travelled to many places across the United States and Europe. Serenity, love, and gratitude radiated from him until the very end. Having lost the love of his life only 7 weeks earlier, he was ready to be reunited. Chuck was the beloved husband of the late Adrienne (Broggini) Cassidy; father of Dr. Chuck Cassidy, MD and father-in-law of Dianne King Cassidy of Natick, MA; grandfather of Ryan and Caroline Cassidy; uncle of Gary and Mary Jo Cassidy (of Seattle), Bill and Barbara Cassidy (of Portsmouth, NH), and Terry and Chris Cassidy (of Sarasota, FL); and brother of the late Thomas Cassidy, Robert Cassidy, and Elaine Najuch, and brother-in-law of Bea (Mell) Cassidy and the late Mike Najuch. The family would like to thank Tracy Salehi, Clinical Nurse at MGB, for her kindness over the years, as well as the talented and compassionate doctors and nurses at Tufts Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to Tufts Medical Center. Online donations can be made by visiting this website: https://giving.tuftsmedicalcenter.org/give
