Bernard Augustine "Speed" Canney's Obituary
Bernard A. "Speed" Canney, 83, a resident of Lawrence, MA., passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Roxbury, MA. Born in Lawrence, Bernard was a graduate of St. Rita's Grammar School and then attended Lawrence High School until he went into the Marines. A World War II Veteran, he fought in both Guam and Okinawa. Bernard was a member of the Arlington Social Club and a former member of the English Social Club. He was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Lawrence. Members of Bernard's family include: a niece: Charlene Boucher and her husband of Glen of Methuen Nephews: Thomas Canney and his wife Ruth of Methuen, MA. Robert Stacy and his wife Catherine of Derry, NH. Bernard Webb and his wife Lorna of Peabody, MA. Stephen Murray and his wife Patricia of Methuen, MA. James Murray of Haverhill, MA. Richard Murray and his wife Corinne of Port Richey, FL. as well as several grandnieces and grandnephews. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 18, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Lawrence. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, also in Lawrence. Family and friends may call on Thursday, September 17, 2009 from 5 to 8 P.M. and Friday September 18, 2009 from 7:45 to 9:45 A.M. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 122 Amesbury St., Lawrence, MA.
