Barbara L. (Higton) Oakes, passed away peacefully, on August 29, at Sutton Hill Retirement and Nursing home, she was 88 years old. Barbara is the daughter of the late Samuel and Anna (Hughes) Higton of Lawrence, MA and was born on Read Obituary

Deepest sympathy for the loss of one of the sweetest and most devoted to her family ladies I've known. Fred and Barbara were the best of friends with my parents Ralph and Mary Joyce. After the unexpected early loss of my father Fred Oakes was instrumental in helping my mother reestablish herself in the working community in North Andover. Barbara and Mary became best of friends not realizing soon after Fred would also be taken too soon from this life. A lifelong bond was forged and their friendship was exemplary. Strong woman role models that kept their families together and successful despite their hardships which we who were close know too well. God bless, enjoy your wonderful memories of her long life lived with the greatest courage and grace.
