Arthur John "A.J." Roberts Jr.'s Obituary
Arthur John “A.J.” Roberts, Jr., 77, a resident of North Andover, MA, passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at the Lawrence General Hospital surrounded by his family.
Born in Lawrence, MA. on July 21, 1945, to Rita (Montgomery) Roberts and Arthur John Roberts, A.J. was a 1963 graduate of North Andover High School. A.J. was a Vietnam Navy Veteran having served in the Reserves from 1963 to 1969 and in active duty from 1965 to 1967. He had worked for his great friend Harvey Freeman at F&R Auto for some 42 years, retiring in 2008. A lifetime member of the North Andover Counsel of the Knights of Columbus, A.J. joined in 1961, and worked his way through the chairs to become the Grand Knight in 1999-2000. A.J. was also a friend of Bill W.
Members of A.J.’s family include his wife of 37 years Kathleen E. (Bushnell) Roberts, his daughter and son-in-law Erin (Roberts) Bean and William Bean of North Andover, his son Dennis Arthur Roberts of Haverhill, MA, his grandchildren Bethany Roberts of Lawrence and Liam and Addison Bean of North Andover, his brother Stephen Roberts and his sister Eleanor White of Sequim, Washington, and a son Michael Roberts. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, A.J. was predeceased by his sister Martha (Roberts) Breen.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, in St. Michael’s Church, 196 Main St., North Andover, MA. Burial will take place at a later date. Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, May 8, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 35 Merrimack St., North Andover, MA. in lieu of flowers, A.J. requested that memorial contributions be made in his memory to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105 (go to www.stjude.org ) or to the M.S.P.C.A., 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA., 01844.
