Adrienne Cassidy's Obituary
Adrienne Cassidy passed away peacefully on March 12, 2024 with family by her side. Born Adrienne Hildegard Renata Broggini on June 8, 1937 in Locarno, Switzerland, she was the daughter of Federigo and Elsie Broggini. Her father died when she was two years old. In 1939, as World War II was commencing, Adrienne, her mother, grandmother, and aunt Ann Kaderli, travelled by ship on the SS Conte di Savioa (nicknamed “Prince of Peace”) to the United States. Her uncle, Max Kaderli, had arrived earlier and found a house for them in Teaneck New Jersey. She attended Longfellow Public School in Teaneck and enjoyed summer camp in the Poconos. She graduated from Teaneck High School in 1955 on her birthday. She attended Colby College, where she met the late Barbara Eidam, who would become her best friend and roommate for four years. Barbara and her boyfriend Nick Sullivan took her on a blind date with Chuck Cassidy, who she would eventually marry. After graduating from Colby in 1959 (also on her birthday) with Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Adrienne took a job in the microbiology lab at the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. She and Chuck married on August 20, 1960 at St. Patrick’s Church in Lawrence, MA. Her son Chuck was born the following year. She taught in the Lawrence public school system for many years, and then served as dermatology office manager for Drs. Durso and Reynolds. She and Chuck loved to spend summers at Seabrook Beach and returning to Lake George each year to celebrate their wedding anniversary. After retirement, they spent winters in Sarasota, FL, and travelled to many places across the United States and Europe. In her later years, she enjoyed playing bridge with her friend Helen Guilmette and others. After spending 63 years in Lawrence, she joked that she finally made it to Andover, moving with Chuck into the beautiful Stonehill Assisted Living facility. She was a woman of character, intelligence, perseverance, and a genuinely good and caring person. Though reserved, she had a wry smile that always kept you wondering what she was really thinking. Adrienne was the beloved wife of Chuck Cassidy; mother of Chuck Cassidy, MD and mother-in-law of Dianne King Cassidy of Natick, MA; grandmother of Ryan and Caroline Cassidy; aunt of Gary and Mary Jo Cassidy (of Seattle), Bill and Barbara Cassidy (of Dover, NH), and Terry and Chris Cassidy (of Sarasota, FL); sister-in-law of Bea (Mell) Cassidy and her late husband Robert, the late Elaine Najuch and her husband Mike, and the late Tom Cassidy. The family would like to thank the talented and compassionate doctors and nurses at Tufts Medical Center and the incredibly kindhearted team at Stonehill. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Tufts Medical Center. Online donations can be made by visiting this website: https://giving.tuftsmedicalcenter.org/give
A gathering followed by a service will be held at 12:30PM on Saturday March 16, 2024 at Breen Funeral Home, 35 Merrimack St. North Andover, MA 01845.
