Samuel J. Autiello

January 1, 1935 - January 8, 2021

Samuel “Sam” J. Autiello, 86, a resident of Salem, NH, formerly of Methuen, MA passed away on Friday, January 8, 2021 at his residence. The son of the late Guiseppe and Alice (Zampelli) Autiello, he was born and educated in Lawrence and was a graduate of Lawrence High School and Merrimack College where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Sam was a veteran of the Korean Conflict where he served in the United States Air Force. He was retired from Raytheon where he had worked for over 30 years as an Electrical Engineer. Prior to that, Sam had worked at Avco. He was a past member of the Sons of Italy and the Society of Electrical Engineers. Sam enjoyed time with his family, traveling and playing golf. Sam was a lifelong parishioner of Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church in Lawrence. Giving was Sam’s way. Whether it was days spent running errands for and taking care of his sisters, countless hours spent talking and lending a sympathetic ear to friends and relatives, weekends taking nieces and nephews to the park or helping them iron out their golf swings; Sam was always giving as much of his time, and his self, as he could to the people he loved. He did it not dutifully, but gladly with a smile on his face and a song in his step, all while sporting a look to put Bogart to shame. He will be forever missed and never forgotten. Members of Sam’s family include his sisters Jennie Autiello of Salem, NH and Rita Golec and her husband Joseph also of Salem, NH, and his numerous nieces and nephews to whom he will always be ‘Superman’. He is also survived by many cousins and friends. Sam was predeceased by his sisters Ida Volk and Celia Knightly as well as his brother-in-law John J. Knightly, Jr. Funeral services and burial were private. Memorial contributions may be made in Sam’s name to Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 35 Essex St., Lawrence, MA, 01840.
